James Tiberius Kirk was born on 22 March 2233 in Riverside, Iowa, Earth. In 2264 he was promoted to captain, in command of U.S.S. Enterprise for a five-year mission. He was the youngest captain in Starfleet at that time and the first captain to bring his starship back relatively intact after a five-year mission. Kirk's historically rapid rise to a captaincy and command of a loyal and respectful crew are reflected in the awards and commendations he garnered.
