Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is one of the world’s most respected 24-karat gold bullion coins, produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and backed by the Government of Canada. First issued in 1979, it quickly became a global benchmark for high-purity gold bullion.

Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin Features

  • Contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold (24k)
  • Canadian legal tender with a $50 CAD face value
  • Guaranteed for weight and purity by the Royal Canadian Mint and Government of Canada
  • Ships in protective flips, Royal Canadian Mint tubes of 10, or sealed mint cases depending on order size
  • Eligible for Gold IRA and Gold RSP accounts (select products)
  • Available for fully insured delivery or non-bank allocated storage

History & Design

The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Maple Leaf coin in 1979 as one of the first modern gold bullion coins minted to .9999 fine gold purity, setting a new global standard.

The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on earlier issues and King Charles III on current and future coinage, along with the year of mintage and legal-tender denomination. The reverse displays the iconic Canadian maple leaf, Canada’s national symbol, along with inscriptions denoting purity and weight in both English and French.

Gold Maple Leaf coins are minted in multiple sizes, including 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 gram, with the 1 oz coin remaining the most actively traded size worldwide.

Advanced Security Features

The Royal Canadian Mint has implemented several industry-leading security enhancements to protect authenticity, including:

  • A micro-engraved maple leaf security mark, introduced in 2013, containing a laser-etched two-digit year of issue.
  • Precision radial line patterns added in 2015 to both sides of the coin.
  • Bullion DNA™ anti-counterfeiting technology, which digitally records unique coin security marks, allowing owners to verify authenticity with compatible scanning tools.

Delivery & Secure Storage

Gold Maple Leaf coins can be shipped securely and discreetly, with full insurance, tracking, and adult signature requirements. Kitco also offers allocated, non-bank gold storage, where coins are fully insured, segregated, and recorded as your direct property.
