Buy 2015 1 oz Cook Islands $100 Gold Armillary Coin Valcambi

One ounce of .9999 fine Gold, One truly unique design!

This incredible 1 oz coin is in the shape of an armillary sphere. If you have no idea what that means, you are not alone!

Here’s what we learned about the armillary sphere. It was originally invented as a way to model objects in the heavens, using circular rings to represent latitude and longitude. When armillary spheres were first used thousands of years ago, no one was sure how the planets and stars moved, so some armillary spheres put the sun in the center, others have the earth as the center.  All the way through medieval times, before telescopes were invented, the armillary sphere was an important tool used by astronomers to study the heavens.  Nowadays, you can see ancient armillary spheres in museums around the world. If you are really curious to learn more, check out this nerdy but really interesting video from the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, England.

If you love gold, and you’d like to own a representation of this fascinating piece of scientific history, Kitco offers the 1 oz fine gold Armillary Sphere coin from Valcambi.

The Armillary Sphere gold coin contains 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine gold, in four ¼ oz rings. Each 1 oz gold coin comes in a sealed plastic package, and includes an assay card listing weight and purity as well as the signature of a Certified Assayer. Each complete 1 oz gold coin has a face value of $100, with the obverse of each ¼ oz gold ring showing a $25 face value, as well as the weight, purity, and text reading “Cook Islands” and “Elizabeth II”.  The 1 oz armillary sphere gold coin has a diameter of 55 mm (~2.1 inch), and a thickness of 0.85 mm (~0.033 inch).

The round, 999.9 one-ounce piece of fine gold, an investment product with a hole in the middle, is in fact four  ¼-ounce 999.9 legal tender gold coins issued by the Cook Islands. They are attached to each other in concentric circles, and can be twisted into a piece of art resembling an armillary sphere, or separated into four single ¼-ounce gold coins.

An Armillary Sphere 1 oz fine gold coin can be purchased as an investment in pure gold, but this coin is so much more. This 1 oz gold coin can be worn as gold jewelry, either as a unique gold pendant, or as a fascinating addition to a bracelet. Pure .9999 gold is soft, and must be handled with care, but the fragility and purity of this gorgeous 1 oz fine gold coin enhances its beauty and desirability. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift or birthday present for anyone who loves unique gold jewelry.

The 1 oz fine gold Armillary Sphere coin from Valcambi is only available in limited quantities.
