But his passion was gold. And when Flemming learned about Engelhard’s ingenious methods of getting gold across international borders, the idea for Auric Goldfinger was born, perhaps the most famous Bond villain Flemming ever created. 

Charles Englehard Jr. was the real Goldfinger.
