The first of four coins in the Royal Canadian Mint's Predator Coin Series, this 1 oz Silver Cougar Coin honors one of Canada’s most powerful, elusive, and beautiful predators. Found in remote areas from southern Canada to Patagonia, the elusive Puma concolor enjoys the greatest range of any large wild animal in the entire Western hemisphere. This massive tawny cat—about the size of a leopard—stalks the landscapes where its prey lives: from the seaside to the Rocky Mountains, from deserts to boreal forests. As collection worthy silver bullion coins, the limited mintage of this 1 oz Silver Cougar Coin make it a great buy for silver bullion coin buyers.
Canadian artist Emily Damstra has created a powerful design of a cougar leaping toward its prey. The large paws and sharp teeth showcase the fierce attack of this large cat, expertly engraved and enhanced with carefully applied polishes as well as the now RCM standard security enhancements: precision radial lines have been machined within microns to create a light diffractive pattern that is unique in appearance to this coin. Under magnification, the number “16” is visible to denote the year of issue. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin's face value and its year of issue.
